The
Sembays keep North Queen Auto Parts progressive together.
North
Queen Auto Parts is one big happy family. In business now for more
than 40 years, Co-owners Bob and Walter Sembay are proud to say that
6 of their staff of more than 25 are family members.Included
are Bob’s daughters Barbara, Samantha and Trisha as well as
Walter’s sons Andrew, Adam and Adrian. Barbara is the marketing
manager for the Etobicoke, ON recycling facility, while Samantha
heads up the inventory department. While not a direct employee,
Trisha works upstairs in the office of the 5 acre facility managing
the administrative duties of the CAR-MS QRP network. Andrew
works in the sales department, Adrian is a staff mechanic and Adam
works in the inventory department.“It
makes it interesting,” says Bob. “The biggest thing is
the challenges they provide by just being there. They can provide
a new spin on some old ideas, it’s a challenge but it’s
certainly a very fruitful one.”Although
Barb admits to the occasional bumping of heads, she says there is
nothing she enjoys more than working with her father.“I
love it,” she says. “Not only am I lucky to do a job
that I love but I get to do it with someone that I admire, love and
respect.”Barb
says one of her earliest auto recycling memories is of waking up
on Saturday mornings to work at the shop. Although
encouraged to go to university in order to pursue their dreams, all
three Sembay sisters ended up coming back to the auto recycling industry
after they were done school.The
one thing Barb says she gets the most enjoyment out of is when she
finds those hard to get parts for the customer. “Sometimes
it’s like finding a needle in a haystack but it’s completely
worth it especially when it comes down to whether or not a vehicle
is repaired or not. She adds,” it makes it more worthwhile,
and people appreciate that.”
